The World Customs Organisation (WCO) is introducing a new set of Harmonised System (HS) Codes on 1st January 2022. It is the first time the codes have been updated since 2017, so the impact on cross-border e-commerce shipments could be highly significant.
HS2022 changes will see the introduction of over 370 new HS codes, with more than 100 of the current codes being removed. The key items affected include e-cigarettes and other vaping products, cameras, drones, lighting, and antiques. A full list of changes published by the World Customs Organisation can be found here.
ETrak is partnered with data screening provider 'Hurricane' to keep our clients compliant with one simple system. The 'Aura' data solution can perform the three critical cross-border functions (duty and tax calculations, prohibited and restricted goods screening, and denied party screening) and present the data back in real-time.
Hurricane's 'Zephyr' service can also check that the HS Codes submitted for shipments are accurate, to prevent delays further in transit.
Failure to update classification codes by 1st January 2022 will result in shipments being delayed or returned, causing many issues for e-commerce retailers and their customers and logistic providers.
